Your first tuning session in a few steps

This guide walks you through a complete tuning session from opening the application to saving your updated map file. Each step links to the relevant detailed section if you need more information.

Step-by-step workflow

1. Load your map file. Click File → Import Map File in the menu bar (or use the Import VE Table button on the VE Table page). Select your ECU map file (.mecal, .msq, .nexmap, .pcl5, .emu, etc.). DigiTune GTS will detect the ECU type automatically. See Supported Map File Formats.
2. Load one or more log files. Click File → Import Logs (or use the Import Logs button on the Logs page). You can select multiple files at once. All common formats are supported — CSV exports, binary logs, and Excel files. See Supported Log Formats.
3. Review any log warnings. If DigiTune GTS detects potential data quality issues in your logs (overheating, battery voltage problems, AFR sensor faults, or ECU sync losses), a warning dialog will appear automatically. Review these before tuning.
4. Go to a tuning page. Navigate to Fuel / VE Tuning (RPM Column or Load Row) to see your measured fuel data plotted against the current calibration table values. Cells are colour-coded by data quality — green means high-confidence data, red means low-confidence.
5. Tune manually or run AutoTune.
   • Manual: Drag the curve in the scatter plot to match the data shape, or select cells in the table and use the keyboard shortcuts to increment, decrement, interpolate. Commit changes by clicking "Update Table"
   • AutoTune: Switch to the AutoTune page, adjust the Smoothing and Fit Emphasis sliders, then click Run AutoTune. Review the before/after error metrics and revert if not satisfied.
6. Review all tuning pages. Check the Ignition, Knock, Boost, Idle, and Trim pages as needed. Each page follows the same pattern: scatter plot of measured data vs current table values, with a table for manual editing.
7. Save your map. Click File → Save Map File, press Ctrl+S, or use the Save To File button on the VE Table page to write all changes back to your original map file. Requires a Personal or Commercial licence. See Licence & Activation.

Key concepts to understand first

Data quality

Every data point from your log is assigned a quality score (0–100) based on how steady the engine conditions were at that moment — throttle movement, MAP change, coolant temperature, and time since engine start all factor in. Points with low quality scores are shown in red and contribute less to calculations. Only points with high steady-state quality (green) should be used to make calibration decisions.

You can tune the thresholds that control quality scoring in Settings.

The Include checkbox

Each log in the log list has an Include checkbox. Unchecking a log removes it from all calculations without deleting it. This lets you load several sessions and compare or selectively exclude outliers.

Adjust vs Update

On every tuning page, changes you make are shown as adjusted values before you commit them. The original table values remain visible alongside. Only clicking Update (or using the hotkey) writes the adjusted values to the in-memory calibration. Nothing is written to disk until you explicitly save.
